EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) – The windy weather caused problems for firefighters at a vacant house fire in East St. Louis.

It broke out around 2 a.m. on Jefferson Avenue at North 31st Street.  Flames were shooting through the roof and threatened to spread to an occupied home next door.

The homeowner there tried to fight the fire with a water hose before fire crews arrived.

There is no word on what sparked the blaze.
