ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – At least five people were killed in four separate crashes overnight. The first of the fatal crashes happened around midnight on northbound I-55 near the Butler Hill Road exit. A tractor trailer blew a tire and was rear ended by a 2010 Dodge Avenger. The car went underneath the tractor trailer and the female driver, 32-year-old Erin Nabe-Jenkins, was killed. She is from Imperial, MO.
The second crash also happened around midnight. A car went off the road and killed two pedestrians. The crash happened on Evanston in Wellston. The victims were hit while walking on the sidewalk. They were heading home from a store. The impact of the crash shattered the bumper of the car and killed the male and female victims. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
The third crash happened around 2 a.m. A car traveling east on the McKinley Bridge hit the guard rail, stopped in the middle of the road and was struck by a tractor trailer. When first responders arrived the male victim was removed from the car and airlifted to an area hospital. At this point his condition is unknown.
The final crash happened around 2:30 a.m. A driver traveling westbound on I-70/44 lost control of their car, eventually slamming into the side of the Cass overpass. Seconds later the car was on fire. Two people were still inside the car. Another person was ejected from the car during crash. At least two people were killed.
The causes of all four crashes are still being investigated.
