ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Part of the upper Mississippi river will be closed to recreational vessel traffic starting this Thursday. The Coast Guard is concerned that flood waters could be a danger to watercraft. The Mississippi is predicted to reach above 30 feet on Thursday night.
According to a statement from the Coast Guard they will be closing the river between Lock and Dam 27 in Granite City, Illinois and the Jefferson Barrack Bridge in St. Louis at 4 p.m. The river is expected to open back up to traffic sometime early next week.
Mariners should monitor VHF-FM radio channels 16 and 22 for any changes to the closure.
