ST. LOUIS (AP) _ A former St. Louis police officer is jailed and awaiting sentencing after admitting he assaulted a handcuffed man in a case that drew a city prosecutor’s resignation.
Fifty-two-year-old Thomas Carroll of St. Louis pleaded guilty Wednesday to deprivation of rights under color of law.
Authorities say Carroll was on duty in July 2014 when he assaulted the man near St. Louis’ Busch Stadium after the arrested man was found to have a credit car belonging to Carroll’s daughter.
An assistant city circuit attorney, Bliss Worrell, later resigned and pleaded guilty last October the charges that she concealed her knowledge of Carroll’s assault. She awaits sentencing.
