BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI) - We're learning new details about an overnight four-car accident on Interstate 270 in Bridgeton that had a stretch of the highway shut down for hours.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says eastbound I-270 was shut down for more than four hours overnight while accident reconstruction crews investigated the scene.   The crash happened just before 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The Highway Patrol says a driver of a Grand Prix lost control and went into another lane hitting a Ford Explorer.  That collision caused the Explorer to roll over.  Then, another Grand Prix slowed down to try and avoid the rolled over SUV but was rear-ended by a Mercedes.

The drivers of the Explorer and the Mercedes were both taken to the hospital for minor injuries.  A Highway Patrol spokesperson says troopers arrested the driver of the Grand Prix that hit the Explorer for suspicion of DUI and felony assault.

The man is 38 years old and is from Kirkwood.  Authorities plan to present the case to the prosecutor Wednesday.
