CREVE COEUR, MO (KTVI)-Mandy and Drew Marquis of Jersey County, IL got a devastating phone call from their doctor when Mandy was 9 weeks pregnant. She had antibodies in her blood stream that would destroy her baby. She was Rh-negative and her baby was Rh-positive. The only hope was to get blood to the baby while still in utero.
Mercy Hospital gave Mandy 12 intrauterine blood transfusions while she was pregnant and 7 more to the baby after birth.
Baby Everly is doing great today as she prepares to celebrate her first birthday. She was reunited with the medical team who saved her life recently. Mandy is not only extremely thankful to the doctors at Mercy, but also to blood donors whom she says saved her daughter’s life 20 times before she was 5 months old.
