ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The mindfulness approach is a way to improve fertility, reduce stress and improve overall health.  The technique may seem a little out there for some, but doctors say it is working, especially for couples trying to get pregnant.

Women in St. Louis are attending a 4 week class led by Dr. Diane Sanford at the Mind Body Health Center in Creve Coeur.  The class is helping women by giving them a set of coping skills in their everyday lives.  The women are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and even mommy guilt, trying to be all things to themselves and their families.  They learn respond to negative thoughts with a choice instead of a negative or unpleasant way.  This approach is what Dr. Alice Domar of Boston suggests is making a huge impact on women struggling with infertility.   Her research found a dramatic increase in the number of women who got pregnant while using the mind body techniques.  55 percent of the women in the mind body program had a baby compared to 20 percent of women in the study who didn’t do the mind body program.  Most hospitals don’t offer the mind body therapy because it’s expensive and some don’t think it’s worth it.
