ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - A conference is called, "Free The Animals" aims to fight vivisection. That's the practice of using live lab animals for medical experiments. Activists from across the country will be in St. Louis this weekend.  Their first event is a movie screening in University City on Friday.  There will be a protest at Washington University on Monday.

Activists meeting in St. Louis will be working on strategies to protest institutions that still use animals in experiments. They deny charges that they're animal rights extremists.

Peter Young, who spent two years in federal prison for releasing thousands of minks and foxes from Midwestern fur farms is among those scheduled to speak at the conference.

Organizers are especially upset with Washington University.  It is a medical school, and associated hospitals for use animals in tests.

Animal rights advocates say medical dummies and computer simulations would work just as well.
