ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - The end of the new riverfront football stadium plan means a new beginning for a one of a kind St. Louis institution.

Al’s Steakhouse is the oldest family-owned restaurant in St. Louis and still doing business at its original 1925 location – which sat in the football of the proposed new football stadium.

Had the Rams stayed and the riverfront stadium built, this historic restaurant would have been history.

Last year, the restaurant’s future was in doubt; now its future may be brighter than ever.

Even before the stadium plan was announced, Great Rivers Greenway had been working with the city on a redevelopment project for the north riverfront that would include office buildings and housing within 15 to 20 years. Now that the stadium plan is dead, the board passed a resolution to develop a master plan for beginning work on a new waterfront park.

This master plan includes Al’s Restaurant.
