ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- St. Louis must build a new stadium in order to keep the Rams. That word coming from a top NFL executive. Details on this story are appearing in our partner the St Louis Post-Dispatch.
The statement about the importance of a new stadium was made by NFL Executive Vice President Eric Grubman. Grubman was in St. Louis Thursday to meet with Dave Peacock and Bob Blitz- the two people appointed by Governor Nixon to oversee St. Louis` efforts to keep the NFL in St. Louis.
Grubman`s comments came after Peacock and Blitz unveiled plans last Friday for a new 64,000 seat open air stadium on the riverfront just north of downtown.
Grubman-who is in charge of stadium development as well as the exploration of the Los Angeles market for the NFL- told the post that the waterfront location for a new stadium is terrific. But he says the plan isn`t real yet and it`s too early to grade it. Grubman says the league needs more certainty about the costs and revenue from the new stadium and that the plan must be assembled by the end of this year.
He says the league is looking for a solution to keep the Rams in St. Louis.
However, Grubman also confirmed to the post that Rams owner Stan Kroenke is 'looking' elsewhere for the team`s future home.
He says Kroenke has not made it clear to the league if he wants to move the team to Los Angeles.
The NFL is also embarking on a market study about St. Louis as a NFL city. For his part, peacock says that he met with both the NFL and the Rams on Thursday.
He termed the meetings 'very good.'
