ST. LOUIS – St. Louis firefighters and Laclede Gas crews responded to a reported gas line rupture in south city Tuesday afternoon.

The gas line ruptured near the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Klemm Street; that’s in the Botanical Heights neighborhood.  Ten homes were evacuated from the area for safety purposes.  They have since returned to their homes.

Construction workers hit a gas line while working on a project.  The gas is escaping into the air, which is the safest place for gas to go.

Laclede Gas has evaluated the situation.  They say it should be a simple repair.
