O’FALLON, IL (KTVI) – The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged a 47-year-old Augusta, Georgia man for his role in multi-vehicle accident on eastbound Highway 50 earlier this week.
According to prosecutors, the accident happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday night on Highway 50.
The O’Fallon Police Department received a 911 call about a woman jumping from the cab of moving semi-truck in front of the McDonald’s restaurant. When officers responded to the scene, they were soon diverted to a multi-car pileup less than a mile down the highway.
Police said the semi-truck had caused the chain reaction crash. One of the vehicles flipped over, killing the driver, 67-year-old Cheryl Culver. Three others were injured.
Investigators determined the driver of the semi-truck, identified as Orlando Luke, had been in an argument with a female passenger. She jumped from the semi as a result.
Luke was charged with reckless homicide. He remains in custody at St. Clair County Jail on $250,000 bond.
