ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A Good Samaritan, who knows the signs of mental illness, helped save a one-year old baby snatched from his home by his schizophrenic brother.
An Endangered Person Advisory was issued for the missing 1-year-old in unincorporated St. Louis County just after 10am on Thursday. Police said they were looking for a 22-year-old man who they believed to be schizophrenic and bi-polar. He was seen leaving the child's home on foot.
The young man who took the baby was found by police at his father`s house in south St. Louis. His mother says he was sent home from the hospital last week with the wrong medication, and was told to stop taking it.
He was supposed to get the correct medication this morning, but left with the baby before he had a chance to pick it up.
"I am truly blessed, and I want to thank her and give her a hug I appreciate it I really, really do. She just doesn't know; she`s just a blessing to be here for him." said mother Torhonda Hackney.
"It was just strange, I recognized what he was saying when he talked just like my brother when he goes off his meds. It didn`t, I didn't know the baby; he don`t know me." said Frances Rabb.
He will have a mental evaluation but no charges will be filed.
