JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KTVI) – Governor Nixon’s State of the State Address last 47 minutes and covered a range of topics. He discussed his roots as a Boy Scout, praised the state's job growth saying it was the highest in 17 years. He discussed the need to invest in education, expanding Medicaid, and fix Missouri's highway system by adding a toll road on I-70.
But Ferguson was a main topic. The Governor called it a systemic issue and said how we move forward as a state is important. He also praised law enforcement which drew the biggest applause.
House speaker John Diehl from Town and Country gave the republican's response. He echoed some of Nixon's sentiments. But also blasted the governor's use of the National Guard claiming they still plan to get to the bottom of what happened.
