GRAFTON, IL. (KTVI) - A building in Grafton, Illinois is being turned into a processing plant to turn Asian carp into fish oil, animal feed and for human consumption.  Local investors with Chinese business partners are spending $5-$6 million to create the plant, which will be located on a bluff off Route 3.

The carp were brought to the U.S. 30 years ago from China to help Arkansas catfish farmer’s clean algae from their ponds.

Flooding in the 1990s allowed the Asian carp to escape from ponds into the Mississippi Valley rivers.
