ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– As we approach the Labor Day weekend, one labor group has authorized a strike vote that may affect Schnucks, Dierbergs and Shop n’ Save stores.

Local 88 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union represents more than 3,000 employees who work in the meat, deli and seafood departments at the three grocery chains.

A spokeswoman for the Greater St. Louis Food Employees Council, which represents the stores, says Local 88 this week voted against a new contract offer. The current contract, which expired in March, has been extended.

She also says the union voted to authorize a strike, but no strike has been called.

Negotiations resume next week. Local 88 had no comment.
