ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– There’s good news for Grumpy Cat. St. Louis based Nestle Purina Petcare is making this kitty their Spokes cat.
“What is it with this cat?” asks Patrick Clark.
“Grumpy?” asks Friskies Brand Manager Alison Coburn. “She’s amazing. She has a huge following on the internet and over one million Facebook fans.”
Tuesday they let the cat out of the bag that this itty bitty kitty from Phoenix is the new face of Friskies brand cat food.
“Grumpy cat will be there as our celebrity cat guest and she will be receiving the lifetime achievement award which is a great accomplishment, especially at the age of one and a half,” says Coburn.
This October the cat food company is holding a video contest in New York where more than $25,000 will be awarded to winners in various categories.
Friskies first began working with this internet wonder cat, also known as tartar sauce, in March with their online game show “Will Kitty Play With It.”
“On one of our episodes, Grumpy Cat was actually under the box so we wanted to see if our cat game show contestant would play with Grumpy,” says Coburn. “And, Grumpy in Grumpy style chose not to play with the other cat.”
Why should she now that she has an endorsement deal.
It’s unclear how much moolah this mouser will make.
She will have a lifetime supply of Friskies and will make personal appearances…unless there’s a grocery bag on the kitchen floor.
“If I frowned more, would that help me get more followers on Facebook or Twitter?” asks Clark
“You should try,” says Coburn. “Although Grumpy looks grumpy we know that she appreciates the humor and just the joy of being a cat.”
Who knows, maybe this furrowed brow feline will turn that frown upside down.
