ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – One vehicle opened fire on another car in the parking lot of a north county high school Friday afternoon, the St. Louis County Police Department said.

According to Sgt. Shawn McGuire, a county police spokesman, the shooting took place around 2:30 p.m. at Hazelwood East High School.

The two vehicles involved quickly left the parking lot after the shooting.

McGuire said the targeted vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that morning from the Spanish Lake area. Police recovered the stolen vehicle soon after the shooting in the rear parking lot at Hazelwood East. The vehicle had crashed and its occupants had fled.

No injuries were reported.

It’s unknown if anybody in either vehicle is a student at the high school.

The Hazelwood School District released the following statement late Friday afternoon:

During dismissal today, as Hazelwood East students were boarding buses and parents were in the pick-up area, unauthorized vehicles came on campus and one motorist got into a verbal altercation with another. As one vehicle sped off, someone in the second vehicle fired shots hitting the other vehicle.

School administrators worked with school personnel to ensure the safety of our students. We are pleased to report that there were no injuries. School administrators are cooperating with the St. Louis County Police as this is an ongoing investigation.
