SPRINGFIELD, MO– The accused killer of ten-year-old Hailey Owens plans to plead not guilty. Craig Wood was ordered held without bond Friday during his first appearance before a judge.

Hailey’s parents and other family members attended the hearing. Wood will be back in court next month.

In the meantime Owens’ mother talked with Springfield television reporter Steve Grant.

It all came crashing down, after two days and nights of police updates and news reports about her daughter’s murder.

Stacy Owens says Hailey was on her way to see her best friend at school halfway between their homes, as they do every day, when she was kidnapped.

And it was the one day, Stacy did not go out with her.

Stacy’s biggest struggle is how and why and when her daughter’s accused murderer targeted Hailey.

Gathering flowers, Stacy says she feels the sea of sympathy flowing to her from almost around the world, while holding on to her faith and ten years with Hailey.

Hailey’s mom says her 12-year-old son is currently staying with relatives, to work through his feelings about his sister’s death.
