ST. ANN, MO (KTVI) – St. Ann police chief Arron Jimenez released video of a police chase that ended in a crash. 21-year-old Demetrius Johnson was driving and decided to run from police because of a suspended license and more.
At around noon on Tuesday police clocked Johnson on 70 west going 80 miles per hour. When officers tried to pull him over he ran going down 70 into Earth City and back. Johnson reached speeds of over 130 miles per hour. He ultimately crashed at 70 east and Natural Bridge.
‘He sideswiped the median and concrete barrier and spins out of control. Thank God no one was hurt.’ said Jimenez
Police found another man, a woman and two kids ages 1 and 3 in the car. Officers also discovered a loaded gun and 10 bags of marijuana inside of the car. Johnson who has a rap sheet was the only one injured in the crash. Police also say he didn’t want to get caught because he was cheating on his girlfriend with the female passenger.
“You have two kids in the back seat not buckled into a car seat not buckled in at all you have zero regard for public safety. They were bystanders in the vehicle and won`t be charged with anything.”
The chief says more people are running from police these days and departments are adjusting their procedures. Now Johnson is facing felony flight and child endangerment charges. So far there’s no word on a court date.
