St. Louis Metro Police officer vacancies being filled by other professionals

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis City has imposed a hiring freeze of police officers at the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. This comes as the department has been short of officers for many years.

Mayor Jones‘s office says she supports filling police officer vacancies with a range of other professionals, including social workers, counselors, and mental health professionals.

It’s part of the city budget proposal to be considered by the top city leaders at a meeting Thursday.
