CANTON, IL (KTVI) – Chris and Heather Shannon of Canton, Illinois had a unique, Blues-themed wedding over the weekend, with photos from the reception going viral on social media.

Chris is a devout St. Louis Blues hockey fan. But how did a man living in central Illinois, some 155 miles away from St. Louis, develop an appreciation for The Note?

The 34-year-old said he followed the Blues’ minor league affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL. Peoria is about a 45-minute drive away from Canton.

His favorite player? Blues captain David Backes, who used to play in Peoria. Chris opted to wear Backes’ jersey for the wedding.

Chris said he gets down to St. Louis two or three times a season to watch the Blues play at Scottrade Center.

Chris said he and Heather went to high school together, but did not become interested in each other until meeting at a high school reunion five years ago. And while she’s never been to a Blues game, Chris said Heather does root for the club – the only sports team she follows.

Admittedly, Chris came up with the idea for the Blues-themed wedding, but Heather agreed to it, so he doesn’t owe her any favors, as far as he knows.
