IRONTON, Mo. (KTVI) – A retired Arcadia Valley schoolteacher and the Iron County Treasurer have put together two events in Iron County Missouri to benefit the Iron County Salvation Army and to promote tourism in Iron County.

Dave and Denise Bates, have organized the “Hogs on the Mountain,” over the Labor Day holiday weekend, Sept. 1, which will feature a motorcycle run to Taum Sauk Mountain, for a blessing of the bikes, then head to the Arcadia Academy in Arcadia, Mo. for fun, games, food and live music. Money raised from the event will go to the local Iron County Salvation Army.

Dave and Denise hope the motorcycle ride will inspire others to come to Iron County for tourism, to see the counties rich natural wonders; Iron Mountain, Taum Sauk Mountain, Johnson Shut Ins, Elephant Rocks, the Black River, Fort Davidson and the Arcadia Academy. The Academy has served as a Civil War Hospital, Catholic Girls School and now as a restaurant.

Since Iron County is in a rural part of the state, hunting is a big attraction, and they hope to capitalize on growing industry hunting wild boar.
