Fatal accident closes Hwy 50 between Lebanon, Trenton

LEBANON, IL (KTVI)- Highway 50 is closed Tuesday morning due to a fatal accident. A tractor trailer and an SUV collided shortly before 7 a.m. between Lebanon and Trenton, Illinois.

According the preliminary investigation, the driver, Bradley Shelburg of Highland, Illinois was traveling westbound on U.S. 50. and the driver of the tractor trailer was traveling eastbound. Witnesses say the SUV crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck the semi head on.

The driver in the SUV was ejected from his vehicle and his truck became fully engulfed with flames.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Semi suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.  This is an ongoing investigation.

The highway remains closed.
