MARYLAND HEIGHT, MO (KTVI) – The Maryland Heights Police Department has busted an identity theft ring. Police say they found over 130 gift cards re-encoded with stolen credit card numbers.

22-year-old Dawud Quarles and 25-year-old Christopher Strickland of Indianapolis are charged with felony trafficking in stolen identities.

Last Friday, police spotted the two loading dozens of cigarette cartons in the parking lot of a Maryland Heights hotel.

Police say the men purchased the gift cards, re-encoded them with stolen credit card information to buy the cigarettes.
