WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI) - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has filed a lawsuit against the Wood River Refinery claiming the facility polluted ground water in the village of Roxana.

The suit was filed in the Madison County Circuit Court. The three-count complaint names WRB Refining LP, The refinery's current owner, as well as several former owners and operators including Conoco Phillips and Shell Oil.

The suit alleges that the contaminants including oil, gasoline and hazardous waste were allowed to leak into the ground water at the refinery and then that pollution went beyond the refinery's property in Roxana.  Phillips operates the 365,000 barrel-a-day refinery with cenovous energy.
