(KTVI)– There could be some delays in counting votes in 18 Illinois counties tonight. The Illinois Election Board confirms ballots in Macoupin County north of St. Louis and 17 other counties were too large for the scanning machines used to optically scan and count votes today. Most were 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch too large and will likely have to be trimmed before being counted.
A spokesman for the Election Board in Springfield, IL said the ballots were held in auxiliary bins in each polling place Two state election officials were sent to Macoupin county to assist in the counting tonight.
The spokesman said the firm hired to produce ballots for those counties, Liberty System, issued incorrect specifications to the printing firm that printed the ballots.
