Creek in East St. Louis turns milky white; hazmat teams responding

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Hazmat crews responded to a creek in East St. Louis Monday after residents discovered the water had turned milky white.

It’s unclear what caused Schoenberger Creek located at 79th Street and St. Clair Avenue to turn white.

The EPA will conduct more tests Tuesday.

The East St. Louis Fire Department told the Belleville News Democrat that preliminary analysis showed the problem was “nothing major.”

FOX 2 will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
