FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – Fairview Heights police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead at a local hotel.
The woman was found dead at the Super 8 by Wyndham, located at Route 159 and Interstate 64. Police said a suspect is in custody.
Around 5:30 p.m., police received calls about a man waving a gun in the hotel parking lot. Officers arrived minutes later and found the woman shot to death in her vehicle.
Officers located the suspect at a bus stop a couple hundred yards away from the hotel.
The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of family members.
Investigators believe the victim and suspect knew one another, but police are still working to piece together the exact nature of that relationship.
