WASHINGTON COUNTY, Mo. – An Illinois man died Monday afternoon after a crash involving three motorcycles in Potosi.
According to a spokesperson for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Missouri Route 21 at Purcell Drive in Washington County.
Investigators said three Yamaha motorcycles were traveling northbound on Route 21 when one of the riders, Jarrett Sarver, stopped due to congestion ahead. The motorcycle rider behind Sarver didn’t see Sarver stop and crashed into him. The third rider could not avoid the others and collided with Sarver as well.
Sarver was rushed to Mercy Hospital South but was pronounced dead just before 7:40 p.m. He was 22.
One of the other riders, a 20-year-old, was also hospitalized for minor injuries.
State police said all three men involved in the crash were wearing helmets.
Correction: Initial reports from state police said the accident occurred overnight Tuesday. That information has since been updated.
