MADISON, Ill. – A massive fire broke out Sunday night at a salvage yard in Madison County, Illinois.

The flames burned into the night at ‘111 Salvage’ on Route 111 in Granite City, Illinois. Several fire departments were called in to fight the four-alarm fire.

Thick black smoke could be seen for miles as cars and tires burned. The ramp from Interstate 55 to Highway 111 was closed because of the fire.

Herb Simmons, with the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency, shared photos of the fire. Huge plumes of smoke and flames consuming cars as firefighters struggled to bring them under control are shown.

Madison County Emergency Management officials brought in special air-conditioned buses to help firefighters deal with the fire as well as the summer heat. No word on any injuries.

Our Nissan Rogue Runner reporter, Nic Lopez, was at the scene. FOX 2 will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
