SWANSEA, Ill. – A worker was killed at Century Castings Corporation in Swansea, Illinois Friday morning.

The Swansea Police Department said a 59-year-old man was crushed by hydraulic machinery at approximately 6 a.m.

Police said officers arrived at the scene within one minute of the emergency and “ran towards the victim and the large machinery. Several workers and Swansea Officers used a large pry to lift the hydraulic machine off of the victim.”

Officers and members of the Swansea Fire Department began life-saving treatment. An ARCH helicopter arrived at the scene at about 6:40 a.m. Officers, firefighters, and Abbott Ambulance personnel performed CPR on the man. Their efforts were unsuccessful.

Swansea Detective Jason Frank and OSHA Investigators are conducting a full investigation into this incident. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Century Castings Corporation is located at 1300 North Illinois street. The helicopter got there at about 6:40 a.m. The details of the medical emergency are unknown at this time. Employees were seen leaving the building Friday morning. The business was set to open at 7 a.m.
