ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – An investigation is underway after a train and a vehicle were involved in a crash Wednesday afternoon in the Metro East.

MetroLink officials said at least 20 passengers were on board when the train collided with a pick-up truck. Five people requested to be transported to a nearby hospital to take precautions, according to officials. The train operator was not physically harmed.

The driver of the pick-up truck was transported to a hospital in stable condition. There’s no update at the moment on their condition.

Officials said the crash occurred in Washington Park which is located in St. Clair County. It’s unclear what led up to the crash.

The service has resumed between the Emerson Park and Fairview Heights stations after it was not operating due to the crash involving an automobile and a train.

The MetroLink station bus shuttles that transported passengers to and from those stations during the time of the crash are now canceled. MetroLink officials said riders should expect 10 to 15-minute delays until the trains return to their normal schedule.
