CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – A fire destroyed a vacant house in Cahokia Heights Monday morning.

Fires are happening more often in the metro-east. This fire took place on Sandy Ridge Road near Carol Road in Cahokia Heights a little before 7 a.m. A woman that lived next door was forced to leave her home as the fire was melting the side of it.

The cause of the fire has yet to be reported. This is the latest of a string of fires in the area as neighboring homes caught fire in Cahokia last Friday. These fires were on Morley Drive about a mile away from Monday’s fires on Sandy Ridge. These fires also started at about 7 a.m. Both of the homes were vacant. Firefighters were able to control the flames, but the houses were destroyed.

“Our first truck on scene reported a fully-involved house fire,” said a Cahokia Heights fireman. “We then went to defensive operations right away due to the amount of fire. We called three other departments to help. At this time the fire is under investigation and no injuries have been reported.”

FOX 2 will update more about these fires and see if firefighters believe there’s a connection.
