Murder investigation in north St. Louis after two burned bodies found several blocks apart

ST. LOUIS – Homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of two burned bodies that were found just blocks apart in North St Louis early Sunday Morning and a woman in the area with burns was taken to a hospital.

Police responded to a call for help in the 5900 hundred block of West Florissant Avenue around 6:30 a.m. and just minutes later another call came in where officers responded to the 5900 block of Emma Avenue. Upon arrival,  police found a burned body in the alley.

Police said firefighters had extinguished a fire just an hour earlier in the 4900 block of Thrush Avenue. There they found 72-year-old Charles Watkins dead inside and a woman was found in the area suffering from burns. Her condition is unknown.

It’s unclear what lead up to their deaths. The investigation is ongoing and at this time police are not releasing if the incidents are related or the names of the victims.
