BRIDGETON, MO. (KTVI) – It might be one of the biggest pumpkins locally grown but John Harmon can't say for sure.

"I couldn't get it on my bathroom scale to get an accurate weight," said Harmon.  He`s talking about the giant pumpkin he grew in his front yard in Bridgeton, Mo.

Harmon's pumpkin appears to be about 250 pounds based on charts that measure pumpkin size and weight. Several others are close in size.

One of the pumpkins was so big Harmon was unable to wrap is arms all the way around them.

"It was still growing when I cut it off," said Harmon.  He was worried how big it might grow so he harvested the pumpkins before they reached full size.

Harmon grew a vine that covered his entire front yard from just one seed he purchased on line at

The seed was advertised as coming from a 1,000 pound pumpkin.

Now Harmon is thinking about selling the seeds from his pumpkin but he`s not sure what he will do.

"I used to play golf but this is a lot cheaper," said Harmon.

Area pumpkin farmers say this year`s weather has been better than recent years for growing pumpkins.

"There should be plenty of pumpkins this year," said Thies Farms' Darrell Thies.
