JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) _ A nonprofit housing group created after the deadly Joplin tornado in May 2011 is preparing to complete its work.
Rebuild Joplin has teamed with corporate partners and the New Orleans-based St. Bernard Project, a national disaster recovery organization, to repair 138 damaged houses and rebuild another 28 destroyed in the country’s deadliest tornado in decades.
More than 7,500 homes were damaged or destroyed by the EF-5 tornado, which killed 161 people.
Rebuild Joplin is hosting its final housewarming event and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
The event at 1205 Little Court is open to the public.
