ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Drivers who frequent the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge to cross the Mississippi River should be prepared for lane closures and travel backups well into next week. Illinois Department of Transportation officials say even though none of these lane restrictions are planned during peak travel periods, they do expect them to snarl traffic significantly.
IDOT says Monday, September 19th and Tuesday, September 20th, the MLK Bridge will be closed in the westbound direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bridge will also be closed in the eastbound direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Department says the bridge will be inspected. Last year, the bridge was closed for most of the year as officials made structural repairs and repainted the bridge.
Additionally, next Monday the 26th through the 29th, only one of the eastbound lanes will be closed each day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
