LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – Lincoln County Firefighters will start testing fire hydrants in mid-April to ensure proper water flow to hydrants, for fire fighting. The testing is also done in part for insurance purposes for the Lincoln County Fire District.

Residents may see some water discoloration, with water turning slightly orange or brown tint. The discoloring is due to rust particles being dislodge in water pipes.

Officials say the discoloring should only be as temporary problem and in most cases goes away in a short period of time. During that time, the water is safe to consume. If you’re washing clothes, you should run the water first, till the water runs clear.

The testing will typically occur Monday thru Friday and signs will be posted in the area on the day before testing will occur, to help alert residents and business owners.
