WINFIELD, MO (KTVI) - One Lincoln County resident e-mailed FOX 2 News video of water coming out of his kitchen tap that is brown in color.

"The water is not exactly all that appealing," the man can be heard saying.  "In fact it's kind of gross."

Monday evening, Bridal Spur subdivision resident Kelly Meadows showed us a glass of her family's tap water.  While the water was relatively clear, there was a layer of rust-colored residue at the bottom of the glass.

"Thick, and there's just tons of particles in it," said Meadows.  "They say it's safe to drink now.  There's no boil order, apparently."

Meadows turned on the kitchen sink.

"It's clean now," she said.  "We actually went out this weekend and bought a water filter, because the smell was so bad.  Just a real chlorinated smell.  Like you were drinking pool water."

The Lincoln County Public Water Supply District Number 1 was closed Monday due to the President's Day holiday.

In the same subdivision where Meadows lives, another family had a similar story.  Amy Fischer said the water out of her family's tap pretty much cleared up early Monday evening.

"About two or three hours ago," she said.  "Come to find out we were under a boil order nobody was aware of.  We had no clue about the boil order at all.  It's supposedly been in place since yesterday.  But when you call they say it's been lifted.  And it was lifted yesterday.  But the first call I made they said it was the boil order was in place yesterday.  I'm not very happy considering we have children and use water daily.  Not very happy at all."

FOX 2 News reached out Lincoln County public works officials, even through their emergency answering service, we were unsuccessful.
