Thousands of Louisiana residents are waking up in shelters as days of heavy rain, not unlike what we’re getting here in St. Louis, have swollen rivers, pushing them over their banks and causing flash flooding.

The federal government has declared a state of emergency around Baton Rouge.

This morning, disaster relief teams from our local American Red Cross are headed south to help.
