(KTVI)-With Black Friday shopping done, neighborhood stores are hoping Small Business Saturday will be their day to make big bucks. Always the day after Black Friday, the event encourages shoppers to shop local. It started as a national retail campaign by American Express in 2010 and has become a very important day for smaller, local shops.

At Christopher’s in Kirkwood, MO, shop owners say Small Business Saturday doesn’t only benefit them, but the small vendors and artisans they buy from.

One new Maplewood store making a big effort to be open for business in time for Small Business Saturday is The Book House, which was forced to relocate its 300,000 books at the end of September from its previous home in Rock Hill, which was an actual old house. When the property was sold to a developer, The Book House lost its lease.
