ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - There it stands; like a cold tower of trepidation, right in front of the Moonrise Hotel. The Zip Flyght Mobile Zip Line is not for the faint of heart. And the Loop Ice Carnival is not for fair weather fans.

So says Joe Edwards, the self-proclaimed Loop Ice Carnival Ice King.

"It kicks off Friday night at the Moonrise Hotel," Edwards said. "And then all the events tomorrow with all the great ice sculptures, sculpting people with chainsaws and ice, which is always fun to see. And lots and lots of events for families and couples."

Edwards took the inaugural zip trip dressed like Evel Knievel circa 1976.

"Well, I decided since I'm going to fly on this zip line, I might as well put on my astronaut outfit, right here at the Moonrise Hotel and the Loop, where we do whimsical things and fun things. We just enjoy life. And try to put positive things out there for people and I figured wow, it's been a couple years since I jumped out of an airplane."

With that explanation behind us, Edwards made his way to the top, was strapped into his body harness, and stepped off the platform. Within seconds, he turned upside-down.

"It was exhilarating," said Edwards afterwards. "I did not expect to go upside down. That was fun."

This is the first year of the Zip Flyte Mobile Zip Line at the Loop Ice Carnival; and also the last.

"Well, it's the last year for it because the Loop Trolley overhead wires are going in after the Loop Ice Carnival,” Edwards said. “So if you want to ride a zip line down Delmar in the Loop, come on down on Saturday."
