Madison County man accused of dragging elderly woman during home invasion

MADISON COUNTY, IL (KTVI) – Police say a Godfrey man broke into an 88-year-old woman’s home on Thursday morning. Robert Profer, 55, is accused of waking the woman up, demanding her purse, and dragging her down a hallway. Police say he fled after stealing her purse and other property.

The victim called the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at around 7:15am Thursday morning. Deputies, Investigators, Alton Police Officers and a canine unit from the Troy Police Department went searching for a suspect. Profer was located near the intersection of Humbert Road at Alby and taken into custody.

Profer is charged with a felony charge of home invasion. His bond is set at $250,000.

Police say that Profer was also wanted for a robbery in Alton the prior evening. The victim in that crime suffered minor injure and is expected to make a full recovery.
