BUNKER HILL, IL (KTVI) - When human remains were stumbled upon by teens, it led a small town sheriff to partner with the Major Case Squad.

The result, a 4-year-old missing person’s case was solved in five days.

Bunker Hill, Illinois, it looks like something out of a Norman Rockwell picture.  Which is why it`s hard to picture what happened here two weeks ago when two teens found skeletal remains in the woods; a find that still lingers on the minds of locals.

Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl was one of the first on the scene.  He was shaken by the discovery.

To help solve the case, Kahl made a call to the Major Case Squad.  It was his first to the elite task force.  The investigators ruled it a homicide; the likely the victim, 24 year-old Joseph Wilson, who vanished a half mile away in 2012.

Kahl says the Major Case Squad made a major impact in helping the smaller municipality and it`s limited resources.  Major Jeff Connor explains the difficulty in solving a 4-year-old cold case.

For Major Case, this is an open and shut case.  All that waits is a positive ID on Wilson from a private firm.  After that, Connor and Kahl firmly believe charges will be coming.

Investigators have a suspect in mind, but are not ready to say who it is.  The entire Major Case Squad has no direct government funding and is operated on donations.
