SAUGET, IL (KTVI) – The Major Case Squad has been activated in Sauget after a man's body was found in a car. Police are handling the case as a homicide.

More than 15 members of the Major Case Squad are working the case out of the Sauget Police Department. They say early Saturday morning police found a 23-year-old male victim deceased in a vehicle.

Investigators say officers were patrolling the 1200 block of Queeny Avenue near Route 3 in Sauget around 1 am when police noticed a parked truck on the side of the road still running. Detectives say it appeared the victim somehow lost control and ended up in a grassy area. When police looked inside the truck, they found a body.

We are told the victim is an African-American male, who had been shot.

The Major Case Squad  of Greater St. Louis has taken over the investigation  and crime scene detectives are  trying to determine  exactly  what happened and piece  together the  circumstances leading   up to the shooting.

Anyone with information should contact the Sauget Police Department at 618-337-5267.
