Man charged for allegedly driving over police officer’s leg

PINE LAWN, MO (KTVI) – Prosecutors have charged a 35-year-old man for allegedly driving over a police officer while fleeing the scene of a drug investigation.

According to Chief Tim Swope of the North County Police Cooperative, police were conducting a drug investigation around 6:20 p.m. in the 4300 block of Oakwood Avenue in Pine Lawn when a suspect sped off, striking an officer in the process.

The suspect, identified as Wallace Simmons, was apprehended a short time later on Gustav Avenue in the Baden neighborhood.

The injured officer was treated at a local hospital and released.

Simmons was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer and jailed on $150,000 cash-only bond.
