Man dies after house fire in south city

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - One man died Friday following a house fire overnight in south St. Louis. It started just after 1:30 a.m. at a home on Prague Avenue at Landsdowne Avenue.

A man came home, smelled smoke, and called firefighters. His son was trapped in the basement where the fire is believed to have started. Firefighters were able to rescue him but he died at the hospital.

There was no working smoking detector at the home.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
