GRANITE CITY, IL (KTVI)- A crazy crash overnight in Granite City ended with an SUV smashing into a building and the driver airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened around 12:40a.m. near the intersection of Nameoki Road and Iowa. The windows of the building are boarded up after the silver Chevy Blazer slammed into them.

Before slamming into the building, the Blazer hit a blue car parked on the Schnucks parking lot across the street.

Police say the Blazer`s driver, a 20-year-old man from Granite City was speeding down Iowa Street. He lost control and wound up in the Schnucks parking lot where he hit a blue car. Fortunatley no one was in the blue car at the time. The Blazer kept going then hit a curb and went airborne for a brief time. The driver was thrown from the car when that took place. He ended up in the middle of Nameoki Road.

Meanwhile, the Blazer kept going after the driver was ejected and crashed into the vacant building.

The driver was airlifted to SLU Hospital. A spokesperson says he is serious condition. A relative says he is set to undergo surgery this morning.

Police say at this point it is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and cause all of the chaos in the first place.
