St. Louis police said they got a call for help around 5:30 a.m. A woman told FOX2 / News 11 that she, along with her 25-year-old daughter and her 27-year-old nephew, were asleep inside the house on Bittner Avenue and Hall Street. The nephew was asleep on the floor when bullets punched through the back wall, door, and window.
Again, the two women headed to the closet. But, the nephew called out to his aunt and said that he was hit in the side of his stomach. She said he crawled to her, and the family stayed on the floor until police arrived. St. Louis Fire Department medics rushed the man to a local hospital in unknown condition. But, the woman said her nephew was breathing and speaking when he left the scene.
The woman said officers counted at least 17 bullet holes in the back of the two-family flat.
The same neighborhood had seen two homicides just weeks ago. There was a man found dead outside of a home on Mclaran Avenue on September 2, 2013. Police found another man dead in a car on September 9, 2013 on Newby Street and Tillie Avenue. The victim’s cousin said gunshots ring out so often here, she sometimes feels like she lives in Iraq. That middle-Eastern country has been wracked by violence since the start of the Iraq war in 2003.
